New session starting for the Spring 2017 Semester!  Try It Free January 23-27, 2017!

UIC offers a wide variety of group fitness session classes including Pilates Reformer, Yoga, Aqua Pilates, Aqua Total Fit, Zumba and more. The instructors of these courses are certified within their discipline and experience ranges from 1-20 years with an average of 7 years. Registration is required and is only available online. These classes are open to students, members and non-members alike.

The Group Fitness Session classes run during the fall, spring and summer semesters.  To view the current class offerings, click on the Group Fitness Session and Instructional Programs pdf located in the left column.

Group Session Class Descriptions

Aqua Pilates: This class is designed to help you develop core strength and flexibility with the low impact benefits of water. This class utilizes shallow rebound work, stretches, and strength work to create a challenging workout program based in the Pilates Method. Excellent for participants with joint and back issues, and those who want to improve posture and core strength.

Ashtanga Yoga:In this class, we will practice the postures of the first half of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series with an emphasis on breathing and proper alignment. It is a vigorous practice in which you will stoke your internal fire, build strength and flexibility, and calm your mind.

Pilates Reformer: Pilates Reformer classes help you develop core strength by working from the inside out, helping you build strength, flexibility, endurance and improving your posture without adding bulk or stress to your joints.

Vinyasa Yoga: Vinyasa yoga is the practice of breath synchronized movement. In this class we will focus on the breath in order to create deep concentration that cultivates a physical transformation by increasing strength and flexibility and a mental transformation by calming the mind.

Yoga Core: A strong core helps prevent injury, improve posture, and increase balance and stability. You’ll feel and look better, and the benefits will make your everyday activities easier. This class will also help you reduce stress and improve your mental focus.

Yoga Fundamentals: Yoga truly is for everyone. Have you said: “I can’t do yoga. I can’t even touch my toes?” If you think that yoga isn’t for you, you haven’t tried Yoga Fundamentals.   You will learn the fundamentals of yoga including proper alignment, variations and modifications so you will be able to do the poses with comfort and safely. You will also learn breathing techniques that will help you focus your attention and bring you into a deeper yoga practice.

Zumba: The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a kind fitness program that will blow you away. Zumba fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in this exciting class full of calorie burning, body energizing, and awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life.

Registration for Students and Members

UIC Students and Campus Recreation Members ONLY –

If this is your first time using Online Services, go to the UIC Campus Recreation home page, www.rec.uic.edu.

  • Click on the “Register Online” icon.
  • Select the “Forgot Password/Create Logins? Click Here” option. Do not select Become a Guest.
  • Enter your email address. Please make sure to use the email address that is on file with Membership Services.
  • You may be asked for your member number (UIN), which can be located on your I-card.
  • You will receive an email from uicrec@uic.edu with your temporary online credentials.  Once you login with your temporary credentials, you will be prompted to update your password and username.
  • Once you have a user login and password you may register online for Group Swim and Parent Tot Lessons, Group Fitness Session classes and Instructional Programs. You will also be able to view your account information and transactions.

Registration for Non-Members

Non-members are welcome to join our group fitness session classes.  If you are not a UIC student or UIC Campus Recreation member, you are considered a non-member.

  • Go to www.rec.uic.edu
  • Click on the registration box to the right of your screen.
  • Click on the “Register Online” icon on the left side of the screen.
  • Click on the “Become a Guest” icon on the right hand side of the screen.
  • Follow the prompts for creating an account.
  • Be sure to enter a birthdate.
  • After receiving confirmation of your account, you will be able to log-in with your new user name.
