Annual Health and Wellness Survey
Public Health Initiatives is excited to announce it will be conducting its second annual student health and wellbeing assessment. Spark Check is a comprehensive survey created here at UIC in collaboration with a number of experts around campus.
What is the Spark Check survey focused on?
In spring 2024, close to 2,000 students from across the UIC campuses participated in the Healthy Minds Study web-based survey. This survey gave us detailed insight into our students’ mental health needs and how these needs vary across our diverse student populations. It also showed us how our students access mental health services, both on campus and off campus, and any challenges they face to receiving the help they may need.
However, there remains a gap in data related to our students’ physical health needs and behaviors. We also want to continue to understand our students’ experiences of accessing and using healthcare both on and off campus.
How will the data be used?
The results from the Healthy Minds Study have, and continue, to guide changes to enhance our student resources. In addition, the data have sparked important conversations about mental health and supporting students across our schools, colleges, and units.
Like the Healthy Minds Study results, data from the Spark Check survey will be used to:
- advocate for expanded or re-oriented services.
- ensure current resources better meet the needs of its students.
- work toward reducing health inequities across populations on campus.
- diminish barriers to accessing healthcare, particularly on campus.
- inform campus policies and procedures to better support student health and wellbeing.
How can I participate?
On April 7th, all students will be invited to participate in the Spark Check survey, which will be linked on the Public Health Initiatives website. You have until May 2nd to complete the survey, but please note, the survey must be completed in one sitting. The survey will take about 25 minutes to complete.
