Walking/Running Routes at UIC

Are you ready to go walking or running?

You can start these routes at a UIC Campus Recreation location and see some of the great sites Chicago has to offer.

The routes range from just over 1 mile to 5 mile paths.   The routes are generally flat and are on sidewalks and are loop.

Walking/Running Safety Tips:

  • Try not to bring valuables/phones or keep them hidden from view
  • Try to not use headphones, but if you must, keep the volume low so you are still aware of your surroundings
  • Obey traffic signals and watch for bicyclists
  • Try to stay on well-lit paths/routes
  • Trust your gut instincts-if you do not feel safe, change your route
  • UIC campus has emergency buttons throughout campus—be aware of those locations
  • Leave a note for your roommate for your running path and the time you expect to be back
  •  Wear reflective clothing when running in the early morning or evening
  • Carry some cash or your Ventra card in case you need to have an alternative to get home
  • Know areas where you can stop at a water fountain or for a restroom

Route 1: UIC East Campus Loop

Attributes:   Starts at Student Recreation Facility, loop, flat, sidewalks

Route 2: UIC South Fields

Attributes: Starts at the Student Recreation Facility, flat, sidewalks
 
Distance: 1.86

Route 3: The Scenic Route

Attributes: loop, flat, sidewalks, view some of Chicago’s most popular sites (Willis Tower, Cloud Gate, Buckingham Fountain, Museums and More!)
 
Distance: 4.93 miles

Route 4: SRF to SFC and Back

Attributes: start at either the Student Recreation Facility or the Sport & Fitness Center, flat, sidewalks
 
Distance: 1.8 miles one way-or 3.44 round trip.

Route 5: The Taste of Chicago

Attributes: Starts at the Student Recreation Facility, loop, flat, sidewalks, through Greek Town and Little Italy
 
Distance: 2.56 miles

Route 6: Shopping Excursion

Attributes: Starts at the Student Recreation Facility, loop, flat, sidewalks, this route takes you to famous shopping areas at Macy’s and the Mag Mile
 
Distance: 5.12 miles

Route 7: Tour de Parks

Attributes: Starts at the Sport & Fitness Center, loop, flat, sidewalks, potential to run through paved paths in park and takes you through the parks near the UIC campus
 
Distance: 2.62 miles

Route 8: The Medical Mile

Attributes: Starts at the Sport & Fitness Center, loop, flat, sidewalks this route makes a loop around the Illinois Medical District
 
Distance: 1.08 miles

Route 9: Hoops & Hockey

Attributes: Starts at the Sport & Fitness Center, and takes you around the United Center
 
Distance: 2.64 miles

Route 10: North Avenue Beach Trail Run

Attributes: loop, flat, sidewalks & trail path
 
Distance: 9.49 miles
